Papers of Congregational minister and historian Abiel Holmes. Correspondence and loose mss. included letters of Johnathan and Benjamin Trumbull, Jeremy Belknap, and John Wheelock, among others; a 1758 list of bonds due the estate of Henry Flynt; and a 1792 letter of John Lathrop with a history of the Massachusetts Congregational Charitable Society. Other papers include: ms. writings, lectures, and notes of Holmes and Ezra Stiles on the ecclesiastical history of New England and the U.S.; sermons (1788-1830); partial mss. of Benjamin Trumbull's A General history of the United States ... (1810); and a vol. of transcripts and extracts from the papers of Cotton Mather.

John Wheelock was born in Lebanon, Conn. in 1754. He attended Yale University for three years, then transferred to Dartmouth College and graduated in 1771 with the first class.
